The formula in one sentence

SelfPlus AGE+ is built around a single active ingredient — Japanese knotweed root standardized to 50% trans-resveratrol — giving 125 mg of trans-resveratrol in each daily capsule. Everything else on the label is there to help make, fill or stabilize the capsule.

1. Japanese knotweed root (Polygonum cuspidatum) — 250 mg

Japanese knotweed (also called Reynoutria japonica or Fallopia japonica) is a fast-growing perennial plant native to East Asia. Its root has a long history in traditional Chinese and Japanese herbal practice, where it's known as hu zhang and itadori. Today it's best known as the world's leading commercial source of resveratrol, because the root contains far more of it than grapes do.

Besides resveratrol, knotweed root contains related compounds such as polydatin (a glucose-bound form of resveratrol) and emodin. Standardizing the extract to a set percentage of trans-resveratrol is how manufacturers keep the dose consistent from batch to batch.

2. Trans-resveratrol — 125 mg (50% of the extract)

Resveratrol exists in two forms, or isomers: trans and cis. Trans-resveratrol is the more stable form and the one used in most human research, which is why SelfPlus specifies it on the label. At 125 mg, AGE+ sits in the low-to-moderate range of what human studies have used — high enough to be meaningful compared with diet (a glass of red wine typically has only a few milligrams at most), and well below the gram-level doses where digestive side effects become more common.

How the numbers work

250 mg of knotweed root extract × 50% standardization = 125 mg trans-resveratrol. The 125 mg is part of the 250 mg, not added on top of it.

3. Lemon grass powder

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) is a common culinary herb. In AGE+ it's listed alongside the excipients and its amount isn't stated separately, so it most likely plays a supporting role in the capsule fill rather than acting as a second active ingredient. SelfPlus markets AGE+ as a focused, essentially single-active formula.

4. Magnesium stearate and white rice flour

These are standard capsule-making helpers. Magnesium stearate is a flow agent that keeps powder from sticking to machinery, used in tiny amounts. White rice flour is a common filler that helps each capsule fill evenly. Neither is there for a health effect.

5. Vegetable capsule (cellulose)

The capsule shell is made from plant cellulose instead of gelatin. That makes it suitable for people who avoid animal-derived capsules — but if you follow a strict vegan diet, confirm the full sourcing with SelfPlus support, since we can't verify every raw material.

What's not in SelfPlus AGE+

AGE+ doesn't add other popular longevity ingredients such as NMN, NR, quercetin, pterostilbene or piperine. That keeps the formula simple and the dose easy to understand, but it also means AGE+ isn't an all-in-one stack. If you already take other supplements, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding resveratrol.

Ingredient quality: what we could verify

How AGE+ compares to other resveratrol supplements

Many resveratrol products blend knotweed with grape extract, add co-ingredients, or use higher doses of 250–1,000 mg. AGE+ is a mid-dose, single-source option at one capsule a day. For a side-by-side look, read SelfPlus AGE+ vs other resveratrol supplements.
